About Christiane
Dr. Christiane Whitehouse (she/her) is passionate about helping people work through the mental health challenges of living with chronic physical health conditions. She works with adults managing chronic issues including insomnia, pain, organ transplants, and autoimmune diseases, as well as those affected by neurologic conditions such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain injury, or epilepsy, and neurodegenerative diseases like dementia and Parkinson’s. Her therapy focuses on helping people understand and cope with anxiety, depression, grief, and the loss of identity or purpose that can often accompany these chronic health conditions.
Dr. Whitehouse offers therapy using two evidence-based approaches: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). She is trained in the specific treatment of CBT for insomnia (CBT-I). Dr. Whitehouse received her PhD in clinical psychology from Dalhousie University, which included a one-year residency focused in neuropsychology at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. In addition to her generalist training, she completed clinical placements in St. Joesph’s Renal Transplant Clinic and General Internal Medicine units, as well as NSHA’s Chronic Pain Management Unit, Senior’s Health, and the Acquired Brain Injury Inpatient Program. She spent several years working with the Dalhousie Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Research Unit where she conducted her thesis research on cognition in people living with MS.
Dr. Whitehouse is a white, cis-gender female. She strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for all her clients by approaching with humility and curiosity in sessions, while committed to ongoing learning outside of sessions.
